Why verification matters

Postoperative MLD requires procedure-specific understanding.

Not all "lymphatic drainage" is Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised technique taught through recognised schools and training programmes. Yet MLD is not a statutorily regulated profession in the UK, so the words "lymphatic drainage" alone do not show what training a practitioner has completed.

That distinction matters particularly after surgery, when established lymphatic pathways may be altered and surgery-specific understanding becomes important. The MLD Register brings greater clarity by checking evidence of training and current insurance, showing where each therapist trained, the level of training completed, and enabling patients to search by procedure and explore the surgeries each therapist reports experience supporting alongside reviews.

Three checks before booking postoperative MLD: your lymphatic map may change, because surgery can alter drainage pathways and procedure-specific post-op care matters; post-op MLD is specialised, so choose a therapist with specialist credentials and experience; and massage therapists are not regulated by law in the UK, so The MLD Register checks training and current insurance for peace of mind.
  • Your lymphatic map may change

Surgery can alter drainage pathways, making procedure-specific post-op care important.

  • Post-op MLD is specialised

For the best recovery, choose a therapist with specialist credentials and experience in post-op MLD care.

  • Check training and insurance

Massage therapists are not regulated by law in the UK. The MLD Register checks training and current insurance for peace of mind.

Our approach

The standard behind every listing

  1. Recognised MLD & specialist postoperative training. Membership is reserved for therapists trained through recognised MLD schools and specialist programmes. Vodder · Casley-Smith · Földi · Leduc · LTA Fill and Flush · Aftercare Academy i Recognition applies to named courses, not to everything a school runs. For Aftercare Academy that is Advanced MLD & Treatment Protocols. Our Verification Standard lists every accepted course.

  2. Individually reviewed. A person reviews each therapist's accepted training evidence and current professional insurance document before listing, with the review dates clearly displayed. A separate "Revalidated" marker shows an accepted refresher, review or update completed within the previous 24 months.

  3. Independent by design. The MLD Register is not owned by a training school, insurer or professional body - preserving an independent standard for therapists and patients alike. The Register is owned and operated by Truly Empowered Ltd, the company behind Therapy Webgenie and VerifiedPractitioner, with more than 20 years' experience empowering therapists and health professionals.

  4. Patient reviews, clearly sourced. Profiles can show a therapist's live Google rating alongside separate reviews collected here through the Register's own Review system, with each source identified.

We independently review documentary evidence of each therapist's training and current insurance; we do not assess clinical competence. Full details are set out in our verification standard.

Born from first-hand family experience

The register we needed. Created for others. Built with two decades of sector expertise.

The MLD Register was born from first-hand experience within our family, reinforced by the experiences of others close to us. When specialist postoperative MLD was needed, finding an appropriately qualified therapist and the clear information required to make an informed choice proved far more difficult than it should have been.

Drawing on more than 20 years' sector experience empowering therapists and health professionals, we created the independent register we had needed ourselves - bringing independently reviewed training and insurance together with therapist-reported procedure experience and patient reviews in one considered place.
